Overlooking the Catoctin Valley, this residence offered a dramatic view of Frederick’s pastoral farmlands.

The challenge with this project was to create a “sense of scale” by transforming an open space that lacked personal comfort into an environment that would hold interest.

This obstacle was overcome by providing “outdoor rooms” reinforced by the placement of landscaping to encourage the homeowners and their visitors to sit and unwind.

This backyard retreat offers a formal potager garden anchored with a classic garden shed, an expansive dining area adjacent to a built-in barbeque, an intimate sitting room for two, and an inviting patio with fireplace.
